Kim “Kimko” Kochanski
Asst VP of Veteran Affairs
Kim is a 14-year veteran, seasoned in leadership and management skills during both of her operational (pilot) and administrative positions (executive officer) in the United States Air Force and Air Force Reserve.
Flying “on the line” as an instructor pilot required constant awareness of one’s environment to include instinctively sensing a student’s attitude, skill, and general morale or well-being (i.e., general knowledge, competence in a three-dimensional airspace, and recoverability from air sickness within a reasonable time period). Most flying days were 12-16 hours. It was important to work as a team with scheduling, maintenance, and operations to maintain a high operations tempo while ensuring a clean safety record. This experience directly relates to a healthcare environment.
The military also consistently trains its people to be able to rely on each other as well as openly critique one another. Organizations that emphasize strong commitment, strong leadership, and high morale tend to be highly reliable. Kim believes that the Spartan team can bring these same types of positive organizational traits to medical warriors on the front line.
If leaders allow their work force to lose confidence in the professional culture of their organizations, they unintentionally may encourage less than optimal performance and lose good personnel. Kim is primed to help individuals, teams, and organizations rediscover the importance of their commitment to one another as well as understand the significance of refined teamwork in order to increase morale, improve organizational culture and performance, and increase retention.
As a mother of four, Kim also believes in maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Trust and confidence in one’s peers at work can help mitigate overall stress. Spartan tools will help create the type of work environment that foments this trust and ability to rely on team members. Subsequently, employers, employees, and customers simultaneously benefit.
